Hi, I’m Kelly, owner and maker at Kimmer & Co. That’s me in the blue sweater, with my husband and my two beautiful step-daughters. Creating things makes me happy, and my dogs inspire me to come up with new ideas of gifts for you!
Working with my hands has always been a passion for me. Even at a very young age, although I enjoyed spending time with Mom in the kitchen, my real enjoyment was building and fixing things with Dad. Whether it was constructing a picture frame or changing the oil in the car, I was in! I think I was born with a wrench in hand. Dad was my mentor and I loved working with him out in the garage.
I spent much of my adult life working in purchasing and sales in the oil and gas industry. But my dream was always to leave that 9-5 grind behind and do what I love to do most, creating and making things for others. With the support from my wonderful husband, that dream came true for me and I’ve never looked back.
When I wanted to acid etch a simple hummingbird design into a wine bottle for myself, knowing there had to be a better way, that started me on the path to my sand etching business. Although the art itself can be called by different names: sand blasting, sand carving, sand etching or engraving, it’s all the same.
After 12+ years of being in this business, I’ve blasted everything from small glass wine stoppers to windows on the interior of a show home, and from fundraising bricks to pet memorial stones.
The creative spirit inside of me wouldn’t let me stop there. With the support from my husband once again, I’ve introduced another specialty process which allows me to offer new and unique printed gifts as well as the sand etched glass and stones I’ve become known for as a specialist in my field.
Some people ask me where the name Kimmer and Co. came from. It came from my grandmother, pictured here at age 17, about 1954. Her nickname was Kimmer and she is the original inspiration for my business name.
Maybe it’s genetic, who knows, but this lady had a great love for dogs and so do I. As much as I’ve enjoyed making many different things for people over the years, my greatest pleasure has always been pet related gifts.
I look forward to making something special for your furry pet, so make yourself at home and look around my shop. Feel free to contact me if you have any custom design requests or a gift idea that you would like to see added to my shop. Enjoy!
